Mutant clones were often surrounded by cell debris (C) and their branches
formed `anastomosing' structures (arrows in E) not observed in wild-type
clones. Staining for the glial marker Repo (arrowhead in E) indicated that
mutant clones comprised neuronal and glial cells.
