Solid horizontal lines represent parasegment boundaries in Drosophila, and possible parasegment boundaries in Schistocerca and Tetranychus. Solid green bars represent engrailed expression in Drosophila; solid blue bars represent primary stripes of PgIII genes; hatched blue bars represent secondary stripes. Pair-rule modulated stripes of PgIII genes in insects and Tetranychus form with a different register.
