Blue lines represent genes that are downregulated during development; green lines represent genes that are upregulated during development. The arrows and the two insets (line graphs) highlight one downregulated gene (Tera) and one up regulated gene (Pcsk1). In the graphs, each line represents one gene. The y axis represents the fold change in gene expression level of each sample normalized to 1, and the x axis represents the cellular stage of development. The average level of gene expression is 3-fold higher in differentiated islets than in undifferentiated embryonic samples. Genes that are downregulated as a function of differentiation contain many tumor associated genes (see Table S6 PDF attached).
