Fig. S1. Absence of Arx expression in mitral cells. (A-C) A double-labeled E12.5 section for Arx (red in A,C) and neuropilin-1 (Npn-1) (green in B,C: mitral cells). (D-F) A double labeled E16.5 section for Arx (red in D,F) and Tbx21 (green in E,F: mitral cells). Arx is not expressed in mitral cells at either E12.5 or E16.5. Scale bars: in C, 40 mm for A-C; in F, 100 mm for D-F.
Fig. S2. Impaired entry of interneuron progenitors into OB in Arx-deficient mice. (A-D) Parasagittal sections of P0 wild-type (A,C) and Arx-deficient (B,D) mice that received BrdU injection at E14.5 (A,B) or E 16.5 (C,D) were immunofluorescently labeled with anti-BrdU antibody (red) and counterstained with DAPI (blue). Although the migration of OB interneuron progenitors was observed in the RMS of mutant mice, they stalled at the rostral tip of the RMS without entering into the OB (B,D). Scale bar: in D, 400 mm for all panels.
Fig. S3. Expression of candidate molecules involved in migration of OB interneurons. (A-Z) Parasagittal sections of wild-type (A,C,E,G,I,K,M,O,Q,S, U,W,Y) and Arx-deficient (B,D,F,H,J,L,N,P,R,T,V,X,Z) mice at P0 were immunofluorescently labeled with several antibodies (red) and counterstained with DAPI (blue). Some molecules (PSA-NCAM (A,B), Robo2 (E,F), Rig1 (G,H), a1 integrin (I,J), b1 integrin (K,L), b8 integrin (M,N), EphA4 (O,P), EphB2 (Q,R), EphB3 (S,T), ephrin-B2 (U,V), DCC (W,X)) were expressed in cells within the rostral migratory stream (RMS) in wild-type and mutant mice, while others (Robo1 (C,D), EphA4 (O,P), EphB2 (Q,R)) were expressed in cells adjacent to the RMS in both mice. In mutant mice, all these molecules were expressed in similar patterns to wild-type mice. The tunnel-like structure composed of GLAST(+) radial glia was observed in RMS of wild-type (arrowheads in Y) and mutant mice (arrowheads in Z). OB, olfactory bulb. Scale bar: in Z, 400 mm for all panels.
