Cover: Late larvae of amphioxus (Branchiostoma floridae) in the process of metamorphosis. The posterior limit of the pharynx is just posterior to the gill slits and anterior to the digestive diverticulum that grows anteriorly from the midgut (top, earlier larva; bottom, more advanced larva).
